Meditations on Death and Dying with Karen Lee Tue, Oct 31, 2017 at 7:15 pm - 8:45 pm
Death is the greatest teacher you will ever have. When you get comfortable with death, you can get comfortable with living.

Death is certain, the where and when are unknowable. Fear of death is instinctual — “I” will cease to exist! But you have to know this, really, the leading cause of death… is birth.

The more we fear death, the more we hold onto the very source of our suffering — our sense of self. We each maintain elaborate maps of self. I am what I think and feel. I am what I do, what I have, what I know, what I believe, the groups I belong to.

But really, if you think about it, has everything you ever thought, felt, done, had, known, believed, belonged to remained static and stable?

Of course not! If you’ve ever had a major loss count your blessings, because you have come to know how your sense of self is temporary. That the self you are today is not the self you were 20 years ago, a year ago, or even yesterday.

Relaxing about the groundless nature of our very being is a profound liberation that offers freedom in each moment, each here, each now we can show up and let go of what used to be and relax about what will be. It frees us up to be present with what is, authentic, grounded, and yet open to the limitless possibilities that are arising in every instant.

Mindfulness & Tea with Sonia Gomes LICSW Fri, Nov 10, 2017 at 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm
Learn and explore different mindfulness techniques and concentration practices, while being aware of your breath and drinking tea!

"Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment." - Jon Kabat-Zinn

We live a fast paced life with constant distractions and rushing, occupied by social media, news, balancing personal and professional lives. With so much happening we can easily become disconnected from our true selves. We may have lost the ability to feel grounded and be fully aware of the present moment. Mindful tea drinking can help.

A mindfulness state can be achieved by fully engaging the five senses in the present moment. We will use the breath as an anchor, acknowledging and accepting feelings, thoughts, and felt sensations throughout your body.

“Mindful tea drinking is a lovely way to bring mindfulness into your daily life. It is a great, gorgeous, and practical way to remind yourself to be conscious in the now, not worrying about the past or feeling anxious about the future. Drinking organic tea with mindfulness will help you to feel more calm and relaxed, and will allow you to reconnect with yourself, your body, and those around you.”

Learn technique, handling, practice, and nuances of crystal singing bowls. Come to understand the benefits of incorporating crystal bowls in your daily practice.

This is a hands on experiential class focused on the use and practice of crystal singing bowls.

Scientific studies show that sound can produce changes in the autonomic, immune, endocrine and neuropeptide systems. Every atom, molecule, cell, gland, and organ of the human body absorbs and emits sound. The entire body, as well as our brain waves in a relaxed state, vibrates at a fundamental frequency of about 8 cycles per second, literally entraining and attuning us to the basic electromagnetic field of the earth itself!

Bowls will be provided for use and for purchase during the class.
