Class Descriptions

Viniyoga: Beginners yoga is designed to take the stress out of yoga by laying the foundation for a strong and confident yoga practice. Welcome to yoga! Beginners yoga is rich with instruction and demonstration, is deliberately paced and will help you learn the basics. This class welcomes all students who are relatively new to yoga practice or simply wish to focus on the basics.

The Viniyoga method of yoga is based on the deep relationship between breath and movement, experiencing yoga from the inside out and providing a sound approach to practicing yoga postures (asana). The deep slow rhythmic breath that you will master naturally creates a calm and focused mind and reduces stress on a physiologic level. The Viniyoga teacher incorporates safe and effective sequencing, and adaptation of poses to suit individual needs. Viniyoga classes may at times include seated breath awareness (pranayama), meditation and other yogic techniques.

Viniyoga Therapeutic classes provide an opportunity for students with chronic conditions to experience the benefits of yoga in a way that works for them and addresses chronic aches and pains with gentle therapeutic yoga techniques while gently gaining strength.

Hatha yoga: Think of Hatha as the big umbrella of yoga that covers the multiplicity of yoga styles that are practiced today. Hatha classes incorporate postures (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama) and have a goal of bringing union to the opposite qualities of sun (ha) and moon (tha).

This class is appropriate to those who have been practicing yoga for at least six months, or are quick learners with no current physical limitations. If not, we recommend our beginners, restorative and therapeutic classes.

Yoga with Meditation takes a mindful approach to āsana (postures) and includes meditation and / or pranayama (breath practices). Yoga is at it’s root, a systematic approach to creating mental clarity and focus, beginning with the mindful practice of yoga āsana to prepare the body to sit in meditation, and to train the mind to focus. Meditation is the heart of yoga.

Strength, Stretch & Flow: Starting where you are, build strength, increase flexibility and dive into the subtle dance of flowing from one posture to the next to the rhythm of your breath in a meditation on movement.

Our approach to flow, also known as vinyasa, is inclusive for students of all levels of ability. The teachers will let you know how you can adapt the practice to suit you. There is no need to "power through!"
Flow: Beginners is ideal for you if you are ready to start practicing flow yoga, but find yourself lost in a regular class.

Flow: Synchronize movement to the rhythm of the breath, entering a state of flow in a dance-like practice of moving from one āsana to the next.

Yin
Yin Yoga helps you reduce stress, and to feel calm and centered. In this quiet Yin class, we will explore the profound energetic, emotional, and physical aspects of yoga through stillness and surrender. Postures are held for two to ten minutes each while cultivating mindfulness.

Although this class has a slow pace, the practice can be intense. This class is appropriate to all who have no current injuries. If you are working with a physical limitation, we recommend our beginners, restorative and therapeutic classes.

Restorative yoga is a delicious way to relax and soothe frayed nerves. Restorative classes use bolsters, blankets, and blocks to prop students in passive poses so that the body can experience the benefits of a pose without having to exert any effort. A good restorative class is more rejuvenating than a nap.

This class is appropriate to students of all levels, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned yogini, you will benefit from this restorative class.

Prenatal yoga will help you ease through pregnancy by helping strengthen pelvic abdominal tone, teaching you vital relaxation skills and providing a quiet opportunity for each mother to connect with her changing body and growing baby. Yoga can help ease back ache, improve sleep and digestion and simply help you experience overall wellbeing.

Prenatal yoga provides a special opportunity for community among students as sharing stories of progressing pregnancies and helpful hints will be encouraged!

If you are pregnant we recommend that you take Prenatal yoga classes only! Other classes may not include safety precautions and certainly won't target your needs at this special time.
